Better Mind. Better Health. Better Community.

Dusty Stillwell started walking to change his life. Somewhere along the way, he decided he might as well leave his community a little better too.

The Dustywalks77 drawing: Dusty stands on a green hill in an orange cap and a purple shirt that says COOL GUY, holding a trash grabber, under a blue sky with white clouds and a smiling yellow sun wearing black sunglasses.

The story

It Started With a Walk.

Dusty began the year at more than 520 pounds and decided something had to change. Not a dramatic plan. Not a program with a name. He started walking.

The walking stuck. He added strength training. He started working on the mental side of it too — the part nobody posts about, and the part that turns out to matter most. The weight started coming off.

Then he noticed the trash. It's along every road and trail in the country and most of us have quietly agreed to stop seeing it. Dusty started bringing a bag. Then a grabber. The walk that was supposed to fix one thing started fixing two.

Get a little better. Leave the place a little better. Do it again tomorrow.

He started posting it all as Dustywalks77 — the 77 is his old football number — and people found it, mostly because he never pretended to have it figured out. He is genuinely still in the middle of this. There are good weeks and there are the other kind. That's the whole point: you don't have to be finished to be worth following, and you don't have to be finished to start.

The mission

Three Simple Goals.

They're not three separate projects. They're the same walk, doing three jobs at once.

Goal one

Better Mind.

The part that happens before the shoes go on. Doing hard things on purpose, showing up when it's boring, getting outside, and working on yourself honestly instead of waiting to feel motivated.

  • Mindset
  • Personal growth
  • Consistency
  • Getting outside
Goal two

Better Health.

Walking, lifting, moving, and slowly building habits that hold. Documented while it's still happening, not written up afterwards from the finish line. Starting counts for more than doing it perfectly.

  • Walking
  • Strength
  • Weight loss
  • Better habits
Goal three

Better Community.

Parks, trails, roadsides, neighborhoods. Picking up what other people dropped, bringing others along, and leaving every route in slightly better shape than he found it.

  • Litter cleanup
  • Parks & trails
  • Neighborhoods
  • Bringing people along

The numbers

Still in the Middle of It.

Cleanups

A Walk Can Change More Than One Thing.

The route was for his health. The bag was an afterthought. Now they're the same thing — every walk is a few pounds of trash that isn't in a ditch anymore.

How it actually works

There's no schedule and no organization behind this. Dusty picks somewhere that needs it, walks it, and fills bags until he runs out of bags or road. The bin on his back is a plastic trash can with a strap on it. The gear is a grabber and a bucket. That's the whole operation.

It works because it's small enough to actually do. Nobody has to organize a committee to pick up a parking lot. Which is the part he'd rather you took away from all this — not that he did it, but that you could.

Know Somewhere That Needs a Little Love?

Tell Dusty where he should walk next.

A park that's gotten away from everyone. A stretch of road nobody claims. A trail behind a school. If you know a spot, it's worth flagging.

And if the spot is close enough to you to walk to — you're allowed to just go do it yourself. That counts. That's the whole idea.
